About Me

A little bit about me.....I grew up in North Bellmore, LI, NY . In 1976 I moved in with Cookie, the love of my life. We moved together to Moncure, NC in 2004. That is when I retired from my profession as a Dental Hygienist. Cookie passed on in 2009 and I needed to go forth with my life. I decided to do some traveling. I went to India with my longtime BFAAF Susan, went to Africa with my awesome friends Judy and Mike and my drum group, went to Alaska, again with Judy. I have been to Aruba numerous times with my great friends Susan and Steven. During all this traveling I hated to leave my furry 4 legged children alone. So, I decided to buy a travel trailer. At this writing I am on my 3rd travel trailer and love it. It is a 33 foot Evergreen Everlite that I pull with my 2015 Ford 250 King Ranch Super Duty. I have been snowbirding for the last 4 years in Sarasota, FL at an RV resort there.

On to Arizona.........

It was a short ride to the next campground in AZ. Staying in Jacob Lake, at Kaibab Camper Village,  which is 41 miles north of the Grand Canyon North Rim.  The campground is about 1 1/2 miles down a dirt road, quite rustic, serene and really cute! The only thing to do here is to go hiking, horseback riding and to see the North Rim. So everyone is pretty much here for the same reason. Spent the rest of the day meeting my fellow rv'ers and making reservations for my next stop. The town of Jacob Lake consists of a small gas station and a gift shop/ restaurant, cafe, lodge. There is only one person with a drivers license in Jacob Lake and that is the owner of the Jacob Lake Inn! Lol!. The shop has the most beautiful, real authentic Indian stuff. Noted for its woven blankets and rugs.  They range from $350 to $6000.00. They are unreal! So, I went there to have a bite to eat, it was delicious by the way, but was told by the waitress that John Rich, Jr., was giving a talk tonight about the Navajo Indians and their weaving. It started at 7:30 and was the most interesting talk I have ever been to.  At 9:40 I had to leave since I didn't plan on being out that long and my furry son needed me! So sorry I couldn't stay till the end, I was starting to feel guilty.  John Rich is the owner of the Inn and an archeologist. His own history is incredible. He has been living amongst the Navajos since he was a kid. I could listen to his stories forever. He still buys all the merchandise for the shop from his friends on the reservation. Spoke with, Jennifer, one of the employees. She goes to Utah University and a friend told her about this place. He gives them room and board and a salary. He requires them all to to go to the reservation to see how these people live in harmony, which is what the Navajos base their beliefs on...houzdoo! He seems like such a warm, compassionate man! Actually he is a warm and compassionate man! We could all learn something from him and his talks. Tomorrow he is giving a talk on photography....guess who's going?

Got up this morning and headed out about 10:00 to the Grand Canyon. It was a beautiful ride just to get there. Large treed areas with massive meadows.

After many miles I reached the Grand Canyon admission booth. It was then a lot more miles before you reached the beginning of your destination. Boy was it worth it, it certainly is GRAND!!! Then there are many scenic pullouts to stop and be in awe. Lots of trails to go on but, all but one was at least 3 miles long. The mule ride was tempting but then I thought better of that idea! Another lol moment! I did do a little hiking around as much as I could tolerate. With all the awesome views and getting in and out of the car I didn't leave there until about 3:30.

That is the Colorado river. Usually blue but it had rained so that color is from the rock sediment!

After I returned, walked Asher and fed us both I went to the photography lecture at the Inn. Well, it is tomorrow night. I screwed up. Oh well, came back and Asher played with an 18 months old, 50 lb. golden doodle. They had a blast. Asher kept stealing his new antler bone. Lucy didn't care, so Asher was quite happy. I also got to write this part of my blog.  Hope whomever is enjoying reading it!
